We used to talk about where the bottlenecks were in ESG adoption. Roadblocks centered on confusion about terminology (still true, but improving), data consistency (also true, but improving), and financial advisors’ willingness to integrate ESG into their process.

The past year has shown the beginnings of a major shift in that last roadblock. Financial advisors are seeing an increase in client demand and asset flows into ESG, and they are starting to adapt in greater numbers.

At the same time, the “all-virtual” nature of the pandemic jolted the financial services industry into the digital marketing age. Communicating through online channels was suddenly no longer an optional marketing pursuit.

The convergence of these trends is fascinating.

Longview’s Evan Zall recently talked through the opportunities and implications on Paul Ellis’ Sustainable Finance Podcast. The interview touches on a few timely concerns, including:

  • How the next generation of clients is making decisions about who they trust to manage their money
  • How changes to the SEC advertising rule will influence digital marketing in the investment management industry
  • Why it’s important to really think through your ESG message

We encourage you to have a listen.
